Northwood Animal Hospital, Tallahasse – General Information

Northwood Animal Hospital was founded in 1972 and has been a member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) since 1975.

The current owners, Dr. Sondra Brown, Dr. Kevin Brumfield, and Dr. Sherri Kasper, have owned the hospital since January 2000. We have 5 doctors and a well trained and caring staff that allow us to provide the best patient care available. We are open for normal business hours and remain open after hours as PETS Emergency Hospital. We have a veterinary technician and other support staff present after hours and a doctor on call if an after hour emeregency arises. If your pet has to be hospitalized, they will have 24 hour care at a single location with the top technical staff and doctors available.

Each of our doctors has special areas of interest which expands the level of care your pet will receive. Internal medicine, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, emergency and critical care, dentistry, exotic pet care (birds, ferrets, small mammals, reptiles and amphibians, etc), advanced diagnostics (ultrasound, radiology, dental radiology), dermatology, parasitology, behavioral consultations, and even fish medicine are some of the areas where we can assist your pet

Our AAHA national accreditation is an area where we are particularly proud . To become accredited, hospitals must meet or exceed the criteria set forth by AAHA, whose ultimate goal is “Setting the Standard of Care in Veterinary Medicine”. Inspections by AAHA and evolving requirements to keep up with the rapid growth in treatment standards insure the best care for your pet. On a nationwide basis, less than 15% of all hospitals are accredited by AAHA.

We are very active in helping the local pet community. Our Good Samaritan program, designed to take in injured or sick strays and rehabilitate them, adopted out over 150 pets in 2008. See our C.A.R.E. page  for more details.

Our hospital is also a drop off point for St Francis Wildlife Rescue. This local wildlife group works diligently to help injured or orphaned wild animals. We assist in their care until the animals can be transferred to the St Francis facility for continued care and rehabilitation. Please call us if you need information about a wild animal in need of help.

We organize and sponsor Rescue Relief, an annual benefit to raise money, food, and awareness for local pet rescue groups. These groups are all privately funded and are in constant need of financial and volunteer support. Since 2008 we have raised over $59,000 in money and supplies for these worthwhile groups.

We are also a participant in Relay for Life, an annual benefit for the American Cancer Society. We chose to participate in Relay due to the large number of our own patients that are affected by cancer- a cure for this disease will benefit all of our family members, including our four legged ones. Last year our team was nominated for Best Overall Booth and raised over $4100 for the cause.
